Subscription dues function similarly to a magazine subscription, providing 365 days of membership in the VFW. As this is the first year these changes are implemented, the process may differ from what we are accustomed to.

Here is a basic overview of how subscription dues work:

If you are an annual member and pay your dues before January, your expiration date will be January 2025. However, if you pay after that date, your new expiration date will be based on when National processes your dues. For example, if you submit your dues on February 1, 2024, and National processes them on February 15, your new expiration date will be February 15, 2025.

Annual membership Dues are $39, and they are due on the anniversary of the date you joined the VFW or the date of annual renewal.

Student Veteran's Annual membership is $20.

Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program offers high school students a unique platform to express their thoughts on democratic and patriotic themes through a recorded essay. Each year, nearly 40,000 students in grades 9–12 from across the nation participate for a chance to win a portion of the $2.1 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.

The national first-place winner is awarded a $30,000 scholarship, paid directly to their chosen American university, college, or vocational/technical school. Additional national scholarships range from $1,000 to $15,000, with each VFW Department’s (state) first-place winner receiving a minimum $1,000 scholarship and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
